My radiator is on its way out, car is a '74 Dart. Any suggestions on an upgrade, I was thinking Aluminum mainly for the weight savings. Also an electric fan swap. I have seen some radiators for Mopar in Speedway's catalog, but all they have is the 30" wide, for V8's. Any ideas, thanks.

I did an AFCO aluminum radiator from Summit.
About $175 for the radiator, plus I had to replace the hoses with something that would fit the different placement of the radiator outlets.

I also installed a small transmission oil cooler, as the AFCO did not come with a transmission cooler tank on the bottom.

There was some labor time involved getting everything in, but I am very pleased with the results and I'm glad I went this route.

The "racing" radiators require a fair amount of adaptation to fit and work, and (if this is important to you) they don't look anything like the original.

You may want to see this post for another option.

MichaelS,

I bought the stock two row from NAPA Auto Parts for $125. It is a Modine two row and cools very well! :D I did the electric fan conversion for less than $100 for all the parts. It is probably the best mod I have made in terms of getting the engine to run more efficiently. The number one cylinder always ran colder than the rest. Now they are all even. See my post under MPG's Challenge earlier today.

When you use the stock radiator there is plenty of room to run the cold ram air to the air cleaner. Send me your email if you would like pictures. :D

Hi,

The AFCO was indeed a universal fit product.

Summit # AFC-80100N

Dan is correct, it does not look original, but it looks very "cool" (no pun intended).

There were a couple of moments during the installation where I almost wished I had bought the exact replacement radiator. But in retrospect I'm happy with this one.

I will post pictures of the radiator installed, if you wish.

Here you go...

I used 5/16 bolts and lengths of aluminum tubing to mount the radiator.

The configuration of the radiator inlet (top) required that I replace the factory thermostat gooseneck with a straight one.

I mounted the trans cooler right behind the grill. It's not visible when the hood is down, unless you're right up close and looking for it.

My radiator guy builds 4-rows cheaper than the Aluminum ones that tend to crack in 2-4 years.

For all you folks in Washingad/Portlandstad , Call Doctor Zigs in Centralia WA
