| Post subject: | Aluminum Intake Manifold |
Can anyone identify this: Slant Six Aluminum Intake.. 2 sets of numbers 4105302 4105303 ? Is it MOPAR? or Aftermarket? I see no mftr name, ie. Clifford or Offy. Black paint peeling off. It has the electric plug on top that looks like an iron manifold off a 78 Volare. So it must be later slants? Thanks, Mike

Aftermarket manifolds don't have 7-digit Chrysler casting numbers in them!  Is this a 1bbl or 2bbl intake? If you'll post a couple pictures, we can more readily ID it for you. |

You're right, it's a one barrel setup. I'm not exactly sure how to post pictures here but maybe able to link from another site once I shot a photo with the digital. Stay tuned! |

I have an aluminum 1 barrel on my 85 van. I believe sometime after 1980 or so all slants were painted black as mine is (paint flakes and all) however, mine has a tourque warning/spec cast in along the #1 intake. |

This has the same warning, maybe you can see in the pictures.

This is the '78-'82ish 2-piece electron beam welded intake. They weigh almost nothing, and heat up very quickly, but they are notoriously problematic. Vacuum leaks due to porous welds and flange warp are two common troubles with them, and compared to the various sturdier castings, they're more prone to floor cracks that let exhaust in and make the engine run poorly; see this, this, and this for more details. However, these manifolds can successfully be used if you start with one that's definitely got no cracks or warp, and fill/seal the casting and welds thoroughly — see this post for details and instructions. |

This is nothing like mine- this casting is really rough! Mine has perfect, crisp sides comparible to any cast iron intake. I'd ditch this one in favour of a later model if you can get one. |

You are absolutely right. This part is very rough, the welds have holes (bubbles) and it needs either welding or epoxying. Yesterday I did apply epoxy to the rough edges. Today I will sand and redo if necessary. I'm guessing then that this is a stock part? Also, do you know how hot this will get? Over 200 degrees? Thanks again, Mike |
