| Post subject: | Exaust manifold, front bolt missing |
On my '74 225 the front exaust manifold stud is snapped off and the hole in the manifold dose not appear to line up. Can the manifold shift without this stud? And will the exaust holes be partially blocked because of this? |

Yes, the manifold can move a lot, even with the stud, and it’s probably that your ports aren’t lined up perfectly. If you remove the rear nut and washer, you’ll probably see that the stud isn’t centered in the hole. You will have to loosen all of the other bolts and re-align everything. If you do that, it’s a good idea to replace the gasket and maybe all of the studs while you’re at it. Be careful, though. You can break a few more studs getting the nuts off. I heated mine with a torch after breaking the first one. You can read all about manifold mounting HERE.
