| Post subject: | remedial timing |
i just replaced the timing set - i used the line up the dots with strait edge to center lines - being a van with the front cover off i think i had a pretty good view - back together but radiator and cover off - starts right up - however i put a timing light on and timing is quite advanced - did i think to check before to see if it was that way ? no ( big duh) - doing some checking as best as i know - have vac line to dist plugged - have a vac gauge on the only other fitting on carb i find (holley 1920)- that is the one to the choke pod? - at indicated app 8 btdc about 650 rpm and 18 for the vac - at close to tdc vac and rpm drop quite a bit - quite a bit advanced and the vac goes up to 19 and rpm up maybe 670 - if i rotate the harmonic balancer so marks line up tdc the dist points to #1 terminal - does this sound ok or could i still be off a tooth on the timing set - want to make sure before reinstalling the rest of doghouse etc - thank you from the inexperienced - oo3 |

All you describe in terms of idle RPM and vacuum reading sounds like the cam timing is correct to me. |

I am right at 18 inches at 650 rpm at 16 degrees initial. So that sounds good to me! |
