| Post subject: | OIL PUMP GEAR STRIPPED HELP!!! |
I just rebuilt my 223, and its pushing 300 h.p. I noticed one day, (about 2000 mi on motor) I had no oil pressure. Upon removal of the oil pump, I discovered the gear completely stripped on one side. So I changed oil and filter about twice to get the shavings out and it runs fine with a new oil pump. I need to know what I should do to prevent this in the future, or if it was one time bad luck. The cam is a brand new .460 lift from mopar, and the oil pump was also new hi volume. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jason T TX jasovanni@hotmail.com |

Please help by down-loading and completing the Oil Pump Failure Survay linked below and mail it in as noted. It would be extreamly helpful if you can send-in your failed oil pump gear. As for some possible fixes: *Keep oil pressure reasonable. (50-60 psi max) *Open-up / deburr all oil passageways. (helps reduce "work" & load on the gears) *Check the cam to oil pump gear mesh. (use lapping or gear impression compound) *Run a "Cam Button" to prevent the cam from "walking" forward. *be sure oil pressure "bleed-off" holes are drilled in the cam & cam timing chain gear. Help us help all SL6 owners / racers, complete a survay if you have ever had this failure. DD Oil Pump Gear Failure Report |
