when i got the truck it had a 1 bbl carb and intake . i bought it for 500$ and drove it home and it shut off about 6 times in 15 miles . so i get to the house and the next day try to start it and it wont start . there is gas coming out of the carb and intake in places it shouldnt . so i got a super six setup and install it . along with new wires , cap, rotor, fuel filter , air filter, and oil change with new filter . now it still wont start . it turnes over real nice but nothing . put a lil gas in the carb and tried it and nothing . checked spark and fuel and have both . what could be causeing this thing not to start . the carb is a holly 2 bbl is all i know and its a reman carb from napa . maybe i should just stick to my turbo omni . i dont know much about the /6 yet . just started messing with them when i got the truck . thanks in advance billy in w.v |

spark has to be at the right time....does your truck have the computer mounted off on the fenderwell and no vacuum pod on the dizzy? also, do you get any popping out of the carb or exhaust when cranking? sb |

yeah it pops a lil when turning over . no pods on the dizzy . its a lean burn i think . no computer on firewall . but i have a big computer looking thing in my drivers fender its about 10" long 4" thick and has 2 plugs going to it . there is a voltage reg looking this on the firewall has 2 wires going to it . i didnt move the dizzy at all since i got it ,so it should still be in time . the guy i got it off of took all the emissions off . do i need any of that stuff to run ? billy |

It could be several things. I HATE the lean burn system, but you should check some other things first: Take the cap off the dizzy and use a wrench to turn the crank counterclockwise, then turn it clockwise, see how long it takes for the rotor to move. It should be pretty immediate, if not timing chain may be really slack. In turn, this may have caused the timing to jump enough to not run. Make sure you have voltage to the + side of the coil in the "start" and "run" positions of the ignition switch. Its best to enlist the aide of a buddy for this and to unhook the starter relay. If you had a spare points dizzy lying around, I'd pop that in and see if it would run! The cars I have had with lean burn never stranded me, but got improved fuel economy and drivability with points or HEI conversions. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. sb |
