Post subject:  Charcoal Canister Purge line?

While studiing my dart the other day I noticed that the vent from the carb to the canister is hooked up to the Purge line and not the one marked Carb. What would this do? Its been this way for many miles maybe from the factory, the carb and purge seem to have a different size hose also.

Large hose goes from the carb's bowl vent (up near the top of the carb) to the charcoal can's "CARB" port.

Small hose goes from the carb's purge port (down near the bottom of the carb) goes to the charcoal can's "PURGE" port.

If your car isn't set up this way, fix it so that it is.

The large carb vent line seems to be missing, must be when it was at a local garage getting some work done, I found a few other missed items from them.
I will need a new hose, is there a special kind I should get or is fuel line OK?

Fuel line hose is perfect.

I just looked in my shop manual and the '74 Carter carb doesn't have a vent line to the carb, just the purge line. I should have consulted the book first.

Mistake, it has the stock Holley carb, with no vent line.

Double checked again, both the service manual for 1974 and the carb itself, there is no vent on the top of the carb for a hose to hook to, all available ports are in use. page 14-10 of the service manual shows the 1945 and points to all outlet ports and there is only the purge port. Seems odd to me, it says it is "internally vented"

Donno what to say — every stock '74 I've looked at in recent memory (three or four within the last year) has had the bowl vented to the can.

Dan,

Did they really make a economaster version of the 1945 with the wagon wheel venturi? I just sent the 1945 pdf doc to Michael.

I know they made Economaster 1945s; I thought I'd sold all my new ones, but found one more when gathering up all my carbs to do inventory preparatory to selling most of them. Don't remember if it has the wagon wheel venturi; I'll have to look again.
