| Post subject: | heater core help!! |
My heater core is leaking on my '69 Barracuda. I have looked in Chilton's but can't find any pics to help me get it out. My glovebox is in the way and I am thinking that I need to take that out to get the heater core out. I really need to get this fixed because my car is going in the shop to get new sheet metal put on and it has to be fixed before then!! Please help!! Thanks, Mike lemonboy69@yahoo.com |

Please help!! No problem, one question though, does the car have factory Air Condition? (I hope not) This job is not that hard on non-AC cars, yes on removing the golve box. (use a "stubby" screw driver to remove the screws then drop it out from behind) Other tricks include dropping the heater box unit to the passenger floor and removing the snaps to take-off the front cover. (use a bent screwdriver blade, inserted into the clip's groove) I leave all the cables and wires attached while I swap cores right on the car floor. The job goes pretty fast. If you are swapping-in a used core, be sure to "pressure check" it before installing. ( Hook it up to your car's under-hood heater hoses and run the engine untill hot and on rad. cap pressure) Let's us know on the AC deal and I'll see if I can find a PIC. DD |

It just doesn't come out from behind... Thanks, Mike lemonboy69@yahoo.com |

Please help!! The entire heater box should pull-down if you remove the 4 fan motor nuts, the hose end outlet cover and the plenum box control rod "hook". This hook is a long rod with a bolt at the bottom of the box. It is a good idea to open the vent door and oil the bolt threads before unscrewing. This bolt has to be loosened a lot before you can get it off the sheetmetal lip it "hooks". As for that gloove box, you may be able to squeeze it down some and work it out forward or get it out the back once the heater box drops down some. Here is a look at the AC heater box for a view of the hook. DD
