Post subject:  2 barrel carb on single barrel manifold

Dear all,

I can not find any 2 barrel carb manifold around, is it possible if I machine the stock manifold and use 2 barrel carb with an adapter?

Go to Aussiespeed and look around! They have an interesting 2bbl intake. :D

Post subject:  Check e-bay often

Check e-bay, search 'Slant Six' and look for a listing for a Super Six manifold. Did you check on the parts for sale on the SlantSix.org for sale posting?

Don't get discouraged if you don't find one right away, they show up on e-bay about every week or so. Expect to pay as much for shipping as you do for the manifold, they are heavy. I paid $50 for the intake manifold, and another $50 for shipping (I got an exhaust manifold as well). Given the nasty nature of removing these items don't shy away from paying a few dollars more for one--consider what your time is worth and decide if you want to do battle in the filth of a wrecking yard to yank the manifold to "save" a few dollars.

Otherwise Stovebolt.com and a number of other carb related places DO sell adaptors. The adaptors/1 bbl manifold will rob some of the extra zip from the 2 bbl, and more importantly they will make the carb sit higher--that might be an issue depending on what you drive (hood interference, etc).

The 2bbl intakes are still findable without too much trouble. They do go across eBay on a fairly regular basis, and you can also still find them via www.car-part.com . The idea you have in mind can be done very successfully; click the small pictures in this post to download and read a very good article on how to do it.

Do not use an adaptor to bolt a 2bbl carb onto an unmodified 1bbl intake. It's a complete waste of time, effort, and money; the adaptor plate introduces severe restriction to the flow coming off the 2bbl carb, and creates big hassles with throttle and kickdown linkage and hood clearance to the air cleaner.

Also, there was an article in the "Slant Six News" years ago about how to modify a 1bbl manifold into a 2bbl manifold.
Another option, which is a little more expensive, is to buy a new 4bbl Offenhauser intake and use an adapter plate with a 2bbl carb. Then you'd be setup for future mods.
But yeah, there are still 2bbl intakes out there.

I like the Offy four barrel with a Holley Two barrel route better also. Heck from what I have seen lately they are going cheaper than a SS intake setup anyway. It will have more power all around and be lighter also.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread here, but which Holley 2bbl carb do you think would be good on a stock slant 6? Isn't there a Holley 2bbl that flows 350 cfm?

Yes, there is a 350 CFM Holley 2bbl. Yes, it works well on stock to mildly hopped up 225s.

I hate paying full price for carburetors so I usually find them used.

I have read about the Jeep guys running Autolite 2100 carbs. Would one of those work?

Autolite/Motorcraft 2100 series, see here .

I just looked this up on Summit Racing:

Holley 2bbl carb
model 2300
350 cfm
0-7448

Another carb for me to think about. I'm thinking that it would be easier (and maybe cheaper) to get jets for a Holley rather than a Weber.

Gee, that's exactly the carb I linked you too in my post. If you're colorblind and couldn't see the red text you're forgiven. :D

No, I'm not colorblind, I just didn't try that link. Thanks for posting it though.
That modified intake looks good!

61V200, I still say that's first-class work you did.

Did anyone else see the one that went by on eBay last month? Somebody got a deal...was it one of us here?
