In building up a performance 225 (9.5 to 1 compression, oversize valves, porting, .030 bore, 4bbl, headers,MP Elex Ignition, etc) I was told it should run at about 12 degrees advance and about 32 degrees total advance. How do I put in the distributor for initial startup? Do I turn the crank approx 12 degrees forward from TDC and set the rotor on #1 or what????? My cam was ground at 3 degrees advance and Intake opens at 6 degrees. usclstaffingnet@sprintmail.com |

With #1 on the compression stroke, set the timing mark to what you want (12º BTDC) and point the rotor at #1. To fine tune, turn the key on, turn the distributor all the way clockwise, then rotate counterclockwste until you here a "snap". You may have to do this a few times to get the feel of it. If you are using electronic ignition, you will have to rotate the distributor a little faster to hear the snap than if you have a points ignition. Chuck webmaster@omnipages.com |

You can stick an extra spark plug into the # 1 wire, ground-out the plug and watch the spark jump the gap as you rotate the distributor, you can see right when it fires. DD |
