A question for Doug and others.

Mopar says to use the primary side towards the engine on a 4 barrel hyper pak install.

My understanding is longer runner intakes will help mid range, and shorter runners will move the torque into a higher RPM range.

This would indicate to me, that the primary side should be away from the engine, and the secondary side should be closer to the engine.

I.E. longer effective length on mid range, and shorter effective length at higher RPM/wide open throttle.

Then I look at the Hot Rod magazine Slant sickness articles with the Clifford repro Hyper pak and find the carb is set up in a north/south fashion?

Is there any correct way?
Changes to suit different combos?
Doesn't matter, they all seem to go the same?

The carb can be put in either direction, depending on the build each has it's own complications (in the north south, orientation you can use a standard throttle cable positioning without too much extra engineering...)

On your runner logic, it won't matter since the 'runners' stop short of the carb and become one big plenum negating the 'runner' and becoming a big reserve chamber, in my case I found that the primaries toward the head provided a better fuel mix for my build, allowing the secondaries when open to help sweep everything into the runners... in the opposite direction runners toward the fender, the primaries worked fine, but when the secondaries opened the middle cylinders became over rich in a hurry...

You'll have to play with your own build and see which way it likes it...

Like DI, I have always had the best Hyper-Pak performance and fuel distribution with the carb mounted "sideways", primaries towards the valve cover.

The shorter Sl4 4 bbl manifolds do not seem as sensitive to carb. positioning.
FYI: This is one of those 'no-one will ever agree' topics...

It's eventually going on a '69 VF Valiant Pacer.
