I would like to know is there a big difference in performance between these two motors with the same mods done to them. A friend has both and wants to build one to go in a 69 dart for some street-strip fun. thank you Chas..

It is a matter of RPM vs torque... the 198 can be reved over 7000 rpm, 225 just won't do that.

The longer stroke 225 will produce more low RPM power so it is a matter of how you set-up the combo. If you are going to put in a wild cam, high stall converter & low rear end gear ratio, the smaller 198 can "spin out" about the same H.P.

If you can't support high RPM use, just pull the 7" con rods out of the 198 and build a "long rod" 225. Let's face it, at a .9 HP to cubic inch ratio, you are leaving about 24 horsepower behind with the 198 working at the same RPM as a 225.

Like the man sez: The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic money.
