Hey All...

I own a Australian R series Valiant and its got a slant 6 225 motor stock as a rock. Some one before me has put a 4bbl on it and it runs up the $#!+.

So what can one do about this we were talking about putting a 2bbl back on it.

It seems to be over fueling the car its got no work done to the motor and still has the stock muffler system. So should we put a 2bbl back on it and get it running rite or is there some thing we can do to make it run rite with the 4bbl ???

It also has a dam hard throttle cable witch we need to fix on it as well so its a light on the foot....

Many Thanks..

Jeremy

I tried a cheap Discount Auto parts throttle cable when converting to a 4-barrel and man was it a stiff pedal. I then got a Lokar universal throttle cable and now its smooth and butter.

Thanks for that information Its like pushing against a brick wall dam hard.

The thing with the 4bbl is its pushing to much fuel into the motor we think and
if this is the case do we need to down size back to a 2bbl so its running the slanty better ???

Has any one had this problem before ??

Once again thanks...

Jeremy....

This thread might get moved as it's in the Fuel Injection section...

What size and type of carb is it (Holley, Carter? any 'numbers' so we can see which application)

THat will help us determine what's going on... if it's a 600 cfm+ carb ...yeah that's too big for your current mill... if it's a nice little 390 cfm Holley it's fine, but needs tuning/rebuild....

My stuff up its a 2bbl Holly and its running bad at the moment we have tuned in the car as best we can. To what we got still getting like a dead spot in 2 gear and 3 gear when your sitting on around 3 thousand RPM's.

Number I seen on the Holly is...List 7448-10572 got me stuffed why I thought it was a 4bbl for dam..........

sounds like lean misfire. try choking to see if the dead spot goes. if so, it may need bigger jets, or cleaning out.

Hey mate, does this happen as you cruise past 3000rpm or when you floor it while cruising at 3000rpm. Also can you describe the dead spot. Is it a small hesitation that only last for a second or so then goes away or is it a real big bog that continues once the engine is over 3000rpm.
You might need to put a kit through the carby if it's been sitting for a few years. Do you know what size jets and power valve is in the carby??

Another vote for rebuilding the carb.
Pay close attention to the power valve... a blown power valve will cause the problems you are talking about.
