Any tried, tested, and true products that anyone knows to remove spray adhesive without harming the paint? I'd like to restore the wall panels inside my cargo van back to original stock after removing a custom interior. It looks like a common yellow spray tack. the paint is excellent and should hold up well to a mild treatment, but, nothing yet has worked for me. thanks |

Try some WD-40. It works on the adhesive left behind from vinyl graphics (its what I use in my graphics shop). Spray some on and let it sit a few minutes and it should soften the glue. Then you have to clean up the WD-40 oily residue with something soapy. Good luck |

What options have you already tried? I use XIM's GON or 3M's adhesive remover. How about not using chemicals and try a heat gun and plastic razor blades? Just watch the heat! Don't scorch the paint! |

hello, I use stuff from the supermarket designed to remove sticky labels. the name escapes me right now - something like "de-solve -it'. made from citrus fruits -smells like oranges. it works well on most adhesives I have found,and no paint damage. regards,Rod

Rod that sounds similar to Goo-gone. Clear yellow liquid. Does a good job on glues that are still tacky, not sure what it would do on something thats dried. |

Thanks for the replies guys. WD-40 was the first thing I tried originally, but had no luck. Then I moved to varsol, then turpentine, same result, nothing. I'm thinking the problen might be that the adhesive 'cooked' and baked on real good being on the walls so long in the sun. Goo-gone would do it I'm positive, but knowing from past experience, the fumes would be too much for such a large job. I will try the 3M and grab some wooden scrappers and see how it goes. Thanks |

just got back from the supermarket and got a spray bottle of stuff called "OOMPH". same as the first stuff i mentioned,citrus base,and says it will dissolve glue,labels ,blue tack (that soft sticky stuff to put posters up with) etc. supposed to be safe with most paints but recommends a test on an inconspicuous area first. I think it is the same as the de-solve it -- it is made by the same company. regards,Rod

Another couple to try are "Goof-off" which works marginally well, and plain old lighter fluid. As always, test before subjecting your paint to anything! The best method I found is to use a rotary eraser. Auto parts stores sell them. You need to pay attention to tool speed, and work slowely with them. They tend to get hot if you work them too long or push too hard. I'll take a photo of mine when I get home. CJ |
