In an A body, are the 73-up K-members between small block V8 and Slant Six the same? And will either one bolt into a 67 Barracuda? |

Nope, '67 and later K-frames (including '73-'76 items) are different for 6-cylinder vs. V8 engines. The '73+ K-frames can be installed in '67-'72 A-bodies with some adaptive work. |

I have had race cars where we used the 73 and up "fork type" V-8 K-member and then had special (custom made) engine mounts that allowed us to swap from the V-8 to the SL6 with-out a K-frame change. We pull some pretty fun jokes on racers at the local track, by "showing-off" the car with a SL6 on one week and then running 12's the next week... with a V-8 under the hood. These days, I just run 12's with the SL6 and save myself all that engine swapping time. DD

They bolt right in, but the suspension is a little different in certain years... for instance the 1967 idler arm is a different beast than the 1968+ version... (but the newer version i think would be a much better/safer item to have)-D.Idiot |

I have a '74 SL6 K-member in my '67. I kept my steering box and swapped out the '74 idler for a '68. Everything else was the same. (except for the motor mounts ofcourse) |

Guh, sorry, wasn't clear what I meant by "adaptive". I was thinking engine mounts, i.e. using the complete '73+ mount & bracket. Hadn't thought about that '67 one-year-only idler/pitman! |

Thanks for the info. Hey Doc, I seem to remember recently a green and yellow toad zooming by me at some races |

Yes, I have a pretty fast "frog" these days.... Are you going to make it to the Samoa race in July? So, why the question on K-frame interchange? Are you having second thoughts about sticking a 360 into that fastback fish you "hooked" a while back?? DD |

I was up grabbing the disc brakes off a slant 73 Swinger (for my 67 cuda) last weekend at some guys place, and he thought I wanted the K member also (which I didn't). He said that the slant and V8 k-members were the same for 73 up, which I doubted. Now that I have my brakes, and I am looking to buy some other suspension components, I come to find that 1967 is kind of a weird year for idler arms, and the sway bar fits nicer on a 73-up, so I thought that maybe I would grab the k-member after all, if they are the same. But it looks like it won't be the right one. He says on another property he owns, he has tons of A-bodies (like 15 of them). Hopefully I can get up there this weekend to see what he has. |
