Post subject:  1981 Fuel pump and exhaust manifold

I do believe that I need to replace my fuel pump and was wondering what one is a good one. I have replaced the carb, computer and distribuitor and still get some bucking but not slipping from the tranny.

I also found a crack in my exhaust manifold and am concidering my options in so far as OEM, header or i remember that someone makes a dual manifold.
This is in my 81 D150 that is stock with about 130K miles on her and would like to keep her going for a while longer. She is strong and i have replaced the exhaust from and including the cat back.

Thanks,
Superman

H'mm. What makes you think the bucking is due to a bad fuel pump? Usually bad fuel pumps either cause the engine not to start, or fill the crankcase with gasoline, or in rare cases cause the engine to run OK except at high RPMs. If you do need a new fuel pump, they're still a commodity item. Get a reputable-brand pump from a parts store.

The lean burn setup is often very difficult (essentially impossible) to make work well so that the engine runs smoothly with good driveability, performance, and economy. See this post.

Dutra Duals are the dual manifolds you're thinking of. They're very good. Or you can get a new Chinese-made stock replacement exhaust manifold for about $120 from any of several eBay vendors. Headers = hassles.

Recently, when the fuel pump went out on my '78 Volare, the engine ran very rough, and the oil pan filled up with gasoline. I just replaced the fuel pump with one from O'Reilly's Auto Parts. I get an employee discount!
For the exhaust, I would go with Dutra Duals, as Dan mentioned.
