Assuming the right BH, etc., if I had an 18 spline A833 4 speed would it suffice to get an 18 spline pressure plate or would there be a pilot problem too?

For that matter, would the 23 spline tranny pilot fit up right? I see a lot about the bearing retainers, but little about pilots.

Thanks.

I don't think there would be a pilot bearing problem as the splineage would be the problem...

Mopar pilot bushings are pretty much the same, the problem lies in getting an 18 spline clutch disk for a slant six... you probably could come close with the 11" clutch disk and using a truck bellhousing and the large flywheel... the 'stocker' disks for our engines are all 23 spline and 9.25 or 10"...

more than likely you could sell the 'hemi box' for a nice 1974-ish A-833 from a V-8 duster, and still afford a nice clutch setup, bellhousing, and the linkage

I hear the 23 spline units are more common anyway. I'd probably need to avoid V-8 boxes (with short ratios), given my rear end ratio and wheel size.

My big problem is how to look into the details of a transmission on the other side of the state or country. Most contacts I have are plain old junk yards with no particular Mopar expertise.

Thanks
