So I pulled my side mirror off the other day to put a new piece of glass on it and lube the cables. Vast improvement, but after pulling it off I saw that the mounting area on the door has major cancer. The holes are way enlarged and the sheet metal's warped. I'm debating on if it'll be a better idea to just get a new door, or to strip this one down, take it to the auto shop and have them repair it. Aside from that, the sheet metal on the door is in great shape, so I'd rather just have the body shop fix it. |

I assume the mirror base covers up the rot. I'd clean up the rust and put some rust-bonding paint on it (within the outline of the mirror base) then epoxy a plate with nuts on it on the inside. Then get some new machine screws to hold down the mirror. Use either POR15 or Eastwoods... I've heard that Eastwoods is slightly better. |
