im having alot of trouble im starting to think i need to jack up the whole block from the pan or maybe get and A frame and lift up the engine. Its not going into to place the torque converter is getting in the way can i take off the torque converter and put it back on or something its driving me nuts advice ?

I'm not sure what you're doing but I know of a couple of things that could be your problem. If you left the torque converter bolted up to the engine then you will definitely need to unbolt it and insert it into the transmission. Be sure to replace the front seal in the tranny first or you will almost certainly have a leak. If the torque converter is in the front of the transmission be sure that it is fully seated and engaged with the pump drive ears. If it's not fully seated it will stick out too far and prevent the transmission being bolted up. After you slide it on to the transmission input shaft spin it and push it, you should feel it slid in another 3/8 of an inch or so. You'll also hear a clunk and the rotational resistance will change. After that the tranny should bolt up with no troubles then you'll just have to bolt the converter to the flex plate. |

In a truck there should be a ton of room. Did you let the engine tilt down at the back? All you have to do is watch to make sure you don't break the shroud with the fan, or hit anything that is on the firewall. The converter must be all the way in the trans or you will break the pump. You will feel/hear 3 distinct steps when it goes in correctly. The first 2 aren't too hard to get, but the third you will have to hold up the snout on the converter and turn the converter while gently pushing it until it seats on the pump drive tangs. |

David has it right. The converter absolutely must go completely into the trans before the transmission is bolted to the engine. Then bolt the torque converter to the flex plate. The dust cover comes off the transmission so you have access to the torque converter to flex plate bolts. |

ya i did let the engine tilt down at the back when i was pulling the old one off |
