well i bought myself some rear wheel bearings. in case you were wondering what lead me to buy them was, is when im driving i get a squeaking noise. it keeps up with acceleration and deceleration. its not the exhaust as this makes a different sound. anyway back to my point. im wondering if there is anything else i should buy besides rear wheel bearings. the Haynes book i have mentions a few seals but im not sure what i would need to get. anyone who is knowledgeable on this please enlighten me.

ive had this hapen with a ford pick up and there was somthing stuck in the rotor i took it out and it stopped

i had her apart today and all i got out of the drums was dust. :/ also before i can even finish, i found out that i need to buy a slide hammer. dan maybe you could shed some light on this?

Get a factory service manual, and save the Haines manual for winter heat.

Sqeaking noise that matches accel/decel can easily be u-joints.

ive got a 1972 plymouth valiant. i havent measured the drums yet but they might be the 8 inchers or the 9's. i dont know the exact details on it yet. hmm how can i check u joints? id like to examine all possibilites.

9" drums most likely in that year category....

to bad you don't have a set of 3.23 7 1/4" gears... if you're taking the axle shafts out... you might talk to Thor to set up a kinder ratio for you!

on the rear instead of a dust cap like in the front theres a metal piece as ill call it and it has a metal groove in it. the slide hammer (atleast shown in the manual) has a fitting that goes into it or something. atleast thats my guess but im going to try and check the u joints first. i may return the bearings i bought for now and wait for thor to get back from tour. maybe i can get ahold of you duster? that is if you got any free time coming up.

Uggghhh... freetime... that became a precious commodity with my new job...

ah thats ok i understand how that goes. im actually going to take the wheel bearings back today until i can get it checked. most likely ill be able to do something. thanks everyone for there suggestions. especially you slant zilla i never thought of the u joints.

Be careful driving the car, especially if you suspect the rear wheel bearings. The caged ball bearings of the 7 1/4" rear are not all that strong and could fail catastrophically. I'm not trying to scare you, but I am speaking from experience.

yea i try to be nice to it. im still waiting to check them. i gotta wait until i get money again. however i did change the oil in my diff, and while i had that end of the car up i started it, hit the gas, and no squeak at all. seems to only happen under pressure. so maybe axle bearings?

well time to put this topic to rest. you guys are gonna laugh when you find out what it was....
