Worked on the Piggie today to try and solve the dropping cylinders problem. I inadvertently found the problem when I hit the key and it was hydrolocked again. Pulled the #6 plug and water poured out. Pulled the head and it looks like the #6 intake runner may have cracked. There is no sign of a crack in the chamber, but there was water on top of the intake valve. :x

Good thing I have a spare Jeffrey head.

Major bummer. I had the same thing when I went to far on #6 exh port... Little teeny crack that showed up after driving 1000 miles and 5 drag passes.

Could you epoxy the intake side?

I spoke with Mike tonight. He said that if I can find the crack he has some 2 part stuff that will fix it. :D

Lou, I have an idea what happened, but no solid proof yet. There isn't that much grinding done in these ports.

Zilla, I keep seeing Mike Jeffrey's name here and there on the forum. Everyone seems very happy with the work he does. What kind of coin would I have to save up to have him prep a cyl head?

Probably A lot less than I did to have mine Done - He is a super nice Guy And A fellow Racer that knows his slants..

Just do it.

I cant comment on the Price But I am sure it's reasonable!

Price will vary as to what you have done as far as porting, milling, valves, springs, etc.. One of my heads was around $800. The one I just cracked was $1100.

Thanks guys for the info. Has he or anyone else used a flowbench to see the before and after when tricking out the cyl head? Just curious.

Mike flows every head on his own bench. :D

I had mine flowed via the Drake's buddy and it was 25-35% over stock flow from 0.100 up over 0.500" lift. :D

Lou, thank you for all your help. 25 to 35% increase in flow has to equate to some substantial gains in horses. I guess I will start savin' my pennys!

Went to the shop this morning alone and got the short block out, tore it down to clean it out and check for water damage, reassembled it, put on my spare head, and got it back in the car. Turned it over on the starter long enough to build oil pressure.

Gonna go down next Saturday if I don't have to work. I have to put on the headers/manifold, cap and wires, and a set of plugs and it's ready to go. Gonna warm it up, change the oil, and load it on the trailer to go to 41 for some T&T.

Hopefully all the pieces stay inside this time and I can make it to Joliet the last weekend of the month for their big bucks races. I am hoping to make it into Super Pro. :D

It was kinda weird knowing that this was the last time for sure that I will be putting an engine in the piggie. The Daytona should be done by spring, and we will be using anything we can off the piggie on Bill's Dart.

You never know, it just may end up pushed back in the corner of the garage. I figured out yesterday that I've had that car longer than I had a wife.
