So my friend and I have a modest bet going on that his 70 challenger with a stock 440 running with 4 wires pulled could beat my 71 dart with the super six setup in a 1/4 mile run. There are a number of obvious variables a couple being driver ability and rear end gear ratios (he's got posi 3:91 gears, I have pegleg 2:93's) but I feel confident that his 440 (now 220) will be running so badly on only 4 cylinders, that I could potentially win the race with my properly tuned dart. Any thoughts? Dave |

Well, my gut feeling is that you are probably correct. He's got several things against him, not the least of which is the extra internal frinction in the 4 dead cylinders. Add to that the fact that his fuel micxture will be way off of optimum and my money would be on you. Cylinder deactivation works pretty well on modern computer controlled engines but not so much on vintage carbureted powerplants. |

With cylinder deactivation, they deactivate the valves. So the energy used to compress the air is regained as the air expands, just about no energy loss. With valves opening there's pumping loss (pushing air out, sucking air in) |
