Post subject:  camshaft advance

I just recently installed a comp 264S camshaft in my 75 Valiant. The engine runs great, but I was thinking about advancing the cam a little to help with low end torque ( I don't rev the engine much). How many teeth should I advance the camshaft sprocket?

You need offset bushings for the cam sprocket. Advancing a whole tooth is too much. Divide 360 by the number of teeth on the cam sprocket and you'll see how much each tooth is worth in degrees.

You'll have to check and see if they ground the cam with some advance in it already... most places know you're gonna go 4, so they do it automatically...comp is notorious for that... the cam in the beater valiant I had them grind it 3 degrees since the profile dictated that any more might be the 'downside' of the gains with advancing the cam...

the 252 and 264 both like about 4 and that's about it for them...
