| Post subject: | Broken Fender Mount Tab |
The driver side fender on my 74 Dart has a broken tab. I can't get the brace to tighten. For someone who isn't a welder, how do I repair this? The local body shops don't want to touch it after they see my new paint job and the age of the car. Here's the picture.

http://slantsix.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=1 im thinking heat blocking gel or paste, and a TIG welder on a low setting should allow you to fry in a tab without torching your paint or warping it. some paint around the area will burn inevitably. |

| Post subject: | I fixed similar tabs this way |
Hey! I have had to fix similar tabs in a factory this way: Use a cold chisel to cut yourself a stainless rectangular washer. There are several metal epoxies at any good bolt store that sells fasteners that will hold up precast concrete panels. This stuff holds up 20 tons of cement. dab it on, let it dry to the stainless, and bolt er up. If you can't find such a store, lemme know and I can get you a product name. I didn't beleive in it til I made an emergency trailer hitch reparir with it. rock '64d100 |

Make a piece like an upside-down T with a large top (bottom). A bunch of little screws or rivets on what is now the bottom of the piece attach to the fender. Brace attaches to vertical part of T where the break is. |
