How much quieter is the 50 series? Would it simply be quieter, but still 'loud'? Or would the inside of the car *actually* be quieter, to the point that conversation and the radio could be heard with noticeable improvement? This would be on a slightly built Slant with Clifford headers, Offenhauser intake and 4bbl Edel. Any info would be great. In the near future I'm looking to tone down a loud Valiant into more of a sleeper, but I have to know if a quiet interior would be remotely possible before really putting any bucks on it.

At the end of the day, is there a good performance muffler that would allow for a good, quiet interior, or am I seeking the fountain of youth?

I have yet to find the elusive muffler you seek. I just use larger-than-stock, stock-type mufflers and get my extra-flow-with-quiet that way.

I run a stainless 60 series on my work truck (Vortec EFI SBC,headers)

The truck is quiet inside and at moderate throttle ,,,,and way loud at WOT. 3" inlet/outlet ......$160

I would not use a 40 on anything

Flowmasters sound like ass anyway (or a flock of ducks farting). Go with Dan's suggestion or a Walker Dynomax Super Turbo

I'm actually looking to replace 2 40's we had put on several years ago. =) They sound ok, just obnoxious. I'm just at a point where I no longer want the loudest car around, and would rather hear my music haha. Getting a quiet muffler going is one of the first things I want to attend to when I get the Valiant back.

Dan has good advice. I followed his advice with my brother's van and I am very happy. I wanted a free flowing but quiet exhaust and ended up using a Walker Quiet-Flow muffler designed for a 90s era 318 in a dodge truck. My brother's van now is quiet but has good flow.

If you want quiet Dan is right.

If you want quiet you dont want a Flowmaster anything.

I have a generic "Turbo" muffler on the Valaint....plenty loud (Im 56) ....no drone.

i have a 50 series on my dart with 4bbl, small cam, clifford shorties and i get no drone and have no problem talking on my cell phone or to the person next to me. i think it has great sound and a lot of people mistake it for a small block. my exhaust merges at the firewall and runs through 2.5" pipe all the way to the bumper. another thing that might make a difference is that my muffler is a center in/center out instead of the offset inlet and outlet it should be.

either way, i like the sound of mine and would recommend it to others. mine was given to me by my brother which explains the incorrect application.

Flock of ducks farting lol

I have a flowmaster on mine, don't know which series but I think it sounds really nice for a slant. It has a pretty deep throaty sound to it and its not too loud. It's not quiet but it's not nearly as loud as my cherry bomb. Now THAT sounded like a flock of ducks farting

I like this sound, but am worried about what it sounds like @ higher rpm's going down the road. Who's car is this? or does anyone else have something similar? I just don't want my truck to sound like the local kids civics. (I'm adding headers or dutra duals, cam, headwork etc.)

Yep, sick of the civic sound too...I love the sound of that slant, clifford headers, true dual exhaust with flowmaster 40's is what I think I will get, just like that mean slant!

I'd like to see/hear a video of a similar set up with a car at speed, a drive by pass. If anyone sees one on Youtube or an equivalent please post it or send me a PM with a link. I'd like to do a good exhaust but am still not sure which way to go. I like the blue duster video, it sounds good but I would still like to hear a pass w/ the engine spinning around 3 grand.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Dietz

A set of Factory Hi- Performance 340 Mufflers sound nice and flow very well. They are quiet for a couple of weeks and deepen with age. They have nice deep mellow tone.
