I don't really drive on the highway at all, but I have noticed the few times I have driven it over 50 mph, that it shakes pretty bad. Whats going on? |

Did you get the tires balanced when they were replaced? |

Yes, but just the front ones. The back ones are fairly new, so im assuming that they have already been done.I forgot to mention, the drums on the front need to be turned, but can't because they are out of spec. You could feel the wobble in the brake pedal for a while, but that soon went away. Like I said, the problem gets worse every time I go over 50, but it never does it at speeds lower than that. |

I would check the balance on all four tires again. Shaking like you describe is most often a wheel out of balance. |

Another thing, have you hit any curbs, small children, hondas, etc.lately? Might be a bent rim.Who ever did your front end work might have screwed the pooch on a ball joint or something.Just a thought, good luck. |

As a matter of fact, I ran over a toyota this morning. Just kidding. Anyway, I did hit a good sized hole in the road a few days ago, but the problem started before that. After the alignment, it was fine, I took it right out on the highway and nothing but a quiver. Now, It feels like a 6.0 earthquake coming out of my front end. I am so afraid to drive it going faster than 45, but sometimes I have to. A bent rim crossed my mind, and made me shutter. But, wouldn't it shake at all speeds then? |

I replaced my shocks right after the alignment, that was about 3-4 months ago.

I don't know if a bad shock would cause steering wobble. A few years back when I was commuting 60 miles every day for school I replaced the shocks on my daily driver Ford van. Somehow, the lower mounting bolt on the front right shock came loose and fell out, resulting in the shock being disconnected on the bottom and completely useless. The only reason why I noticed is because the front right end bounced more than the left going over bumps. It was actually kind of fun, like a roller coaster, but I fixed it anyway. I never had any steering wobble though. |

I was in a car once with no shocks at all! All it had were coil springs on it. I guess I will have to go have a chat with the people who mounted/balanced my tires, and with the person who did my alignment. |

Front end alignment WILL NOT cause a wobble!(loose parts could though) Also, as far as wheel balsnce; often once the tires seat and start to wear in they often take less weight to be balanced than they did when 1st mounted. Another thing; the balancer is only as good as its operator. If they somehow didnt have them centered up, if they B.S, balanced them (weight inside only) if one side of the "tee" is busted off the big "wingnut" that hold the wheel tight to the balancer, (I'll tell you about that one later) there are several things that can effect wheel balance. Plus a bent rim, excessive "hop" in the tire whether due to incorrect seating on bead, shifted belts, defect in tire, will screw things up. Just because the idiot pounds as much weight on your wheeks as the machine calls for and it reads "0.00" when re spinning, that does necessarily NOT mean all is well. |

So what do I gotta do? Go back to the shop the tires were mounted at and "chat" with em? |

Yup; That would be my 1st step! If THEY don't take a step back and watch em spin from under the drop down hood on most all balancers these days to watch for a bent rim or a "hop" then you do so. You want the truest spinning ones on the front and if they have to stay on the car the "rougher" ones out back. Because you have control of the fronts via the steering wheel you WILL feel "everything" if theyre not right. Though I was behind a 90s Cougar the other day, and the whole ass end of it was doing a "duck waddle" and a teenage driver that didnt seem to notice or care for that matter. I didnt see a wheel look like it was ready to come off or anything; Im sure it had a slipped belt on one of the back tires. I was waiting for a tire to blow or something. I got out from behind it ASAP. |
