I posted somthing earlier about having a small amout of gas in the line leading from the smog canister to the carb bowl and SL6 Dan told me this is very bad. Any suggestions on what is going on?

The car runs fine, and no fuel comes out of that area when it is off and running. I did put some new charcoal into the canister, as well as a new filter. Maybe I didn't put enough charcoal in it?

Mmm...where did you get this new charcoal you added to the can, and how exactly did you add it? The cans aren't meant to be opened, emptied, or refilled.

In your previous post on the topic, you wrote "I pulled the carb bowl canister hose off the carb and gas came pouring out." That sounds like more than a small amount. So how much liquid fuel was there, exactly...? There should really not be any liquid fuel in either hose between the carb and the can. The first thing to check is whether all the lines are correctly routed amongst the tank, the can, and the carb. Also more detail on this "refill" operation you did.

Well, it wasn't a lot of gas, but it seemed to be a good amount. The bottom of the charcoal canister pops off. You can buy activated charcoal for filters that is exactly like the stuff that was in there. I may not have added enough. I only did this because I dropped the canister and the bottom came off and charcoal spilled all over and was ruined by the dirt.

I just checked all the hoses and they are hooked up correctly.

OK, next question: Which end of the hose is gas coming out? I believe we are narrowing in on your terrible gas mileage...!

No matter what end you take the hose off, gas will come out of it. I first discovered it on the carb side, but I took it off the canister side a well.

Should I try another canister?

Yet another gas related problem...

As I was taking my EGR block off today, gas came out of the square hole. I know there is a hole in the intake, under where the carb sits, that this square port goes into for the egr, but I didn't expect gas to go down there. Is this normal? It was just a small amount, nothing major.

Your carburetor is literally flooding. It's pouring liquid gasoline into places where it shouldn't be. It's overflowing the float bowl and soaking the charcoal can. It's puddling up in the EGR passages in the intake manifold. You've got a heavy (soaked) and/or badly misadjusted carburetor float, and/or a faulty inlet needle and seat. When you find and fix the problem (or put on a better carburetor) I think not only will these weird liquid-fuel problems go away, but your mileage problem will also go away.

We spent some time last night adjusting the float on the BBD, we are being carful to put this thing back together correctly, so I hope I don't have any probs with it.

BTW, does the BBD get worse gas milage than a 1 bbl? If it does, its still better than the one I have right now.

A carb in good condition and proper repair gets better mileage than one in poor condition or improper adjustment; 1bbl or 2bbl.
