Ive got a 72 Plymouth Duster which currently has a 7.25 rear end with a 4 inch pattern. Im eventually dropping a mild 360 in the car and wanted a strong enough rear end and 4.5 inch bolt pattern. My question is, I went to a junkyard that had some C Bodies with some rear ends.. but they were to wide. But they had about 5 mid 80's New Yorkers and Diplomats with some 8.25 rear ends. Would one of those rear ends fit under my Duster? I noticed they were a couple inches longer than my dusters rear end, also would the shock mounts be different? I can get them cheap so I was just gonna come on here to check and see if I need to go down that route.. Im having a hard time finding any A bodies at the moment.

If the 8 1/4 is not from an A body you will have to have it narrowed.

8) I have a 71 dart 0.40 over .50 off the head 252 comp cam 390 holly and a100 shot. I have an 8.25 out of an aspen, that I moved the perches .5 inches in, and it bolts up. aspens are F and diplomats are M bodys. go to the junk yard, take the U bolts and therubber mounts. You can fab the shock mount off of the part that clamps around the spring

Try to find a F-Body 8 1/4. I run one on my Duster with no problems. You just have to move the spring perches. I run 235/60/14's on stock 5.5 rims with no clearance issues.
