Post subject:  Dead stator in the torque converter?

Wanted to hear your experiences with loose stator (not locking in one way) is like in your automatic equipped cars.

My description:

Does not accelerate well at any speed or jump off from standstill. (rather mushy) Shifts points and kick down are correct depending on throttle positions vertifies the throttle valve working as it should.

Did the stall test and correct with type of engine and rpm, transmission NOT slipping on their clutches/bands. (carb 2.2L with 3 speed auto A413).

But the stall test doesn't mean good test if the stator is freely spinning not locked that could explain the low torque multipication?

Reason I have no basis to work from as I never had another chrysler car with A413 that works properly, so need to chime in with your replies is yours jumpy enough to take off if you tap the throttle or stomp on to take off quick?

Cheers, Wizard

i have not dealt with the fwd trannies, but the 904 in my dart did have the stator seize, which caused bad mpg. the stall test was fine as was shifting. however, just like yours, i didn't have great accel or jump from lights. couldn't even break a tire loose on wet pavement. i ended up switching to a 4spd before fixing the tranny.
