Post subject:  clifford headers questions

hello everyone!

any of u guys & gals have clifford shorty headers? if so can i get the measurements of your shortys mostly how tall they are. just see'n i'll have any trouble with them on my car. i have seen some pictures of fenders being cut out and firewalls being modified and i wish NOT to do this to my car.so just even a picture with a tape mesure next to them would be a huge help.

wish i can say more but it's for my top secret dart project. more posts to come when its de-classified.

The Clifford headers will fit any Mopar with a 225 slant six, without problems. If used on a 170 motor, they need to be modified.

When you say any Mopar, Charlie, does that include the very early a-bodies, 60-62?

That's not quite true. My Cliffords that I have in my '66 would not fit in my Duster. The front set of tubes hit the power steering box and the Y-pipe ran into the floor.

Yes, they are the shorties.

I have never seen anyone have to cut the fenderwell out though.

The last time we installed a set, the front tubes hit the steering box and had to be moved upward... this was on a 62 Valiant.

Neil, some ruff numbers, top of flange to bottom of collector 15" on rear set,12" on front.Face of flange to outside of collector 15" on both.Front of flange to face of collector,15" front 8"rear.Front points pert much straight back and rear points down say 45 degree kinda sorta. They'll end up outboard of starter and rear tubes wrap around end of starter.I had to install starter first not enuff room to get it in with header installed  I'm thinking a mini starter would work better as far pulling starter without pulling header when needed.Numbers are eyeball guesstaments :) Unless you're going with a 4brl manny why not go with Dougs duels so you'll still have the hotbox for your super6?,just a thought.Lloyd

hey thanks everyone for the info, and yeah i would go with doug's duals but since i am not paying for most of these upgrades i am kinda stuck with what is purchaced and handed to me. plus i am going for the biggest bang for the buck! in this case headers strait into a huge "fart can" .
the stove pipe issue dosen't really bother me to much because someday when i can afford one i will be getting an aussie 2bbl long runnner intake.

anyways cheers, i am going back @ it!

I got my cliffords used so they could have been messaged by the PO. They were orginally on a 76 aspen is what the PO told me. They made their own clearance on the power steering box in my 70, I allowed them to bang into it for a couple of days(they only hit when it would kick out of fast idle to soon and the idle was really shakey) and a very small dent formed. When I installed new motor mounts they were then 1/2" away from each other. I was also able to get the old starter out with the headers installed to put in the mini starter.
The problem I had was that the Y-pipe that came with them was in the way of the shift linkage, I had to bend the linkage a bit so I could get past reverse into drive.
