Post subject:  Supercharger Camshafts?

I am thinking of possibly doing a supercharger system from the Supercharger Store and they call for a 114* center line on the camshaft. I have a CompCams 264S with a 110* center line would it have a favorable outcome or should I sell the 264 and look for a new cam? Anyone know of a cam with 114* centerline? What other cam specs would be good for a supercharged slant? Michael

The Comp 264 is pretty mild and should work fine. The wider 114° lobe separation would be more important with a longer duration cam. Personally I would get a longer duration cam with a wider lobe separation for increased performance. Oregon Cam Grinding has many profiles to choose from that can be ground on the desired lobe center and all cost less than a new Comp Cam.

Given that NA nts like 2-4 deg ss LSA than most V8s, I would say 110 might be fine, esp with the shorter duration.

You could make more power with a longer dur cam, but what are you after here - racecar, street/strip, cruiser??

when i ran the 4-53 blower i had a custom grind comp .540lift/255@0.050dur with 108deg sep. it work well, but it was only raced so the only driving was back the return road.

The car is a 64 valiant with a 225, planing on 9.1 compression, .060 over pistons, and oversized valves. It is going to be a street car that will see the track offten. It has A/C and will be running an A904. and the supercharger will be the P1SC.

How fast do you want it to go? Pump gas or race gas? How much boost will you run? Carb or EFI? Timing retard system?

Well fast is up to everybodys interpretaion but I am tiered of being left behind by silly imports and preppy mustangs. I know I may be asking alot but hopefully 300-350 hp. This will have to be a street car. It will be EFI and it will have to be pump gas, no more than 93. I do plan to run Methanol Injection so I may not need to us any retarding but if I do I can use the MSD-6BTM that I can get my hands on if it is needed. I figure start with 7pound pulley and work my way to 14 if its needed. And Maybe I could try to break a record someday.

OK, that is helpful. Since you are spending some coin, I HIGHLY recommend getting a good cylinder head done. Mike Jeffrey can make you a killer head for way less than the SC or the EFI, and it will make all the difference. 300 HP should be no problem with 7lbs of boost, a good head, EFI, and that cam.

You might go a little bigger on the cam. I would think something like a 280/280 Erson (228 @ 0.050" or so) and 110 or 112 LSA would work great on a street/strip blower car with true 9:1 comp.
