Hi,
I would like the collectives opinion....I am ready to do some mods to the '72 Valiant. Its a street car with projected HP of 225 to 250 at the flywheel. I am only making 80 at the wheels now so I figure my goal should make for a fun driver. I'm using Dutra duals because they make more sense for the purposes of my car. I was at first going to run full duals but have decided it's overkill and will add uneeded weight. I am going to run a DCE (driver controlled exhaust) muffler. It enables the driver to drive in quiet mode using the muffler as it is intended and has the capability to bypass part of the muffler and allowing more exhaust flow and noise in the process . The rest of the exhaust will be the same as stock except the diameter can be changed to suit my needs. I was thinking 2.5" for the entire system. What do you think? too big? One more thing where is the best place to mearge the two pipes that come off of the Dutra duals ? thanks for the help...nico

Go Full Dual all the way ala V8
With either an X-pipe or H-pipe Crossover

As to Diameter 2 1/2 should be fine Doc? :?

Single system 2 1/2 but not certain about dual

I'll be VERY curious to hear how well this works... Please keep us posted.

As am I. This sounds like a very interesting form of muffler.

I have run a number of different exhaust systems with the Dutra cast iron manifolds and had the best results with 2, two inch pipes off the manifolds, collecting into a 3 inch collector that reduces to 2 1/2 pipe back to the muffler. A 2 inch tailpipe from the muffler to the back of the car or a 1 7/8 tailpipe if you want even less noise.

If you decide to run dual pipes all the way back, be sure to use a "cross-over" or else the harmonic drone will drive you crazy.

Thanks everyone! for the reply...If anyone is interested in this muffler (DCE = driver controlled exhaust), I can provide contact info for the company that sells them. Also Doc, ideally, where should the two pipes from the manifolds be mearged? Thankyou, nico
