Post subject:  Intake manifold repair?

Howdy everyone, just wondering if anyone here had any experience repairing cracked aluminum intakes? I've got mine at a welding shop right now, and between the two choices, one said he'd need a cylinder head to mount the intake to to make sure it's right, the other just said "I can do it", after looking at how clean a break it was, and that it was right at the end of the #6 runner. So, just how scared should I be by this process, and how badly may I have screwed up? The welder's shop by the way did look a bit ramshackle, but a few samples of his work that were around did look very nice. When I showed up, he appeared to be scratch-building a belly pan for something...not sure what. :?:

I always wanted to get a couple factory aluminium intakes and combine them into a dual port intake. The product sold at the above website would make it very easy.

I've always been curious about that stuff. I think I've got a bundle of it somewhere hiding in the garage at home. Although when I bought it, the guy called it something else. The most common name I've seen is 'Alumalloy'. The demonstrations were impressive, though. Anyone ever use it, if so, how'd it do?

I have used a product called HTS-2000. They claim that you can use a propane torch, but I used my gas welding setup. Fairly easy to use, clean the aluminum up so it is shiny, swab it down with the supplied stainless steel brush and you are ready to braze the pieces back together.

You should just sell me your broken intake for half price and get yourself a new one!!! I'll worry about fixing it
