i just bought a 72 scamp for 800. my question is this. is there any way to get a bit more power and a lot more rumble out of the engine other then dropping a new engine in. i have read about glass packs and exhaust cutouts. i want to keep the dependable slant in there but i just want it to rumble a bit. also i dont really want to change out the rear end. i also read about boring, is this really a feasible way to gain any power. i am not trying to race it. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Always nice to have a new slant sixer on board. You're gonna find more slant six info than you know what to do with, and that's a very good thing. I made a similar post like yours recently and got some very good advice for a street buildup that will still give you good mileage and improve performance. You can check it out here. If you have any specific questions about engine modifications, check out the search option above and you'll find there's info on just about everything slant six. If you still can't find it, there's a lot of guys here much smarter than me that can help you with what you need to know. If you get a chance, let us know a little bit about yourself and your Scamp. The more pictures and info you tell us about your car and your goals (quarter mile times, budgets, etc), the more we'll be able to help. |

thanks for the link. more about me. well i am a sgt in the us army. i just returned from iraq. my father in law has a 74 cuda and he got me into mopars. i found this scamp in the local classifieds. he wanted 1500. i went and saw it and offered 800. it doesn't run and was missing a few parts in the engine. so now it is in my garage and i have started to strip it so i can send it away for some much needed body work. i will get some pics up tonight. but i think i got a pretty good deal. |

Welcome to the site, Mr. Scamp. Many thanks for your service and I hope you are enjoying your time back home. Does the engine run now? There are a few simple things you can do to pep and rumble it up without spending big bucks. Give us an idea of your budget for engine/trans work. Goals for performance and mileage?? Best, Lou |

Hey, Angelo. Nice to meet you. I would also like to give a heartfelt thank you for your service to our country. It goes greatly appreciated. I have a buddy stationed in Iraq right now that we pray for every day. Glad you made it back safe. Lou is the man when it comes to making some good pep for a little green. There's all sorts of little inside places you'll learn to find parts. Like I said, anything you need to know, it's here, and these guys can help you out. Whereabouts in the country are you? There may be a few guys from here nearby. Also, check out photobucket. It's free to sign up and pretty easy to upload pictures. Look forward to seeing what you have to show us! |

Welcome aboard Angelo, thanks for your service from an Army dad. I Joined this board in Februay looking for help to get my Dart on the road. These people have been the best, most helpful, and knowledgeble bunch one could hope for. Here is a YouTube, actually several clips, illustrating the song produced by a /6, and if you dig around, examples of performance from a /6 can be discovered here as well. Enjoy the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGxNHJqX ... re=related |

| Post subject: | Thrush Welded muffler |
SCAMP72, One of the best upgrades when I rebuilt my slant was going to a 2.25" exhaust and a Thrush Welded muffler. It is a chambered design and a copy of the Flow Master 40. Summit Racing sells them for about #29.00 which is a very good deal. I have a little over 40,000 miles on the rebuild now and it sounds as good as the day I put it on, nothing to wear out....... I like the sound allot and so does my wife. Long trips are just fine, not too loud but a nice sweet rumble and a nice crackle when you get on step. Between the muffler and the vacuum gauge it should help get you into some good mileage. If you don't rebuild the motor, you should at least recurve the distributor. You can get allot of spunk out of the SL6 with a good recurve that compliments the cam. |
