I usually get stuff sent from Summit Racing to my US post box. I import it myself. Its a seamless, quick way to get stuff. I have to pay Canuck taxes when I cross the border. The big drawback is the 7 hour round trip to the UPS store in the US. Its no problem if Im going Stateside for business......but pricey for $60 worth of stuff. I needed some -AN fittings ...... and had no other reason to go South. I decided to ask Sumwhat Raisin to send my stuff USPS to my Burton post box. UPS would have charged a fortune for shipping and another fortune for "brokerage" . The post office was way cheap and Canada post charged me taxes (same as if I imported ) and $5.00 for handling. I have done business with SR for quite a while and although they usually wont ship to a post box in Canada they relented when I showed the shipping and billing address were the same. It took about 2 weeks for the shipment to come from Ohio to Burton....certainly within my expected service standards. I figure this way saved me a minimum of $50 over UPS....... |

Wow. I haven't ordered from Summit in awhile, but the last time I did, I think I recall their saying "No", they don't/can't/won't use the post office for shipping, only UPS. Either way, good work convincing them to mail your stuff. Any Americans reading this: Never use UPS to send stuff to Canada unless your recipient specifically asks you to do so. |

I noticed a real shift in attitude from Summit regarding USPS for Canadians.......toward the good. UPS are pirates. Starting next week all Canadian UPS deliveries will be done by Purolator (Canada Post) In our region that means 7 routes will be consolidated into one.......meaning we will get service 1 day a week. Dan is right about shipping to Canadians via UPS. This month my wife recieved a homemade quilt from her aunt in Mini Soda. UPS bill on this end $125.....after Aunt paying for shipping on her end. UPS called it brokerage and taxes.....this after they value the quilt at $2000 (for insurance purposes) I refused it and at UPS's advice sent a revised invoice valuing the quilt at $60. It came back the next week with a bill for $31. ....much better. If Aunt had mailed it we would have paid nought.... |

I purchased a RV refrigerator "cooling unit" from a Canadian vender. It was supposed to come UPS, all charges paid. Two weeks after recieving the part, I recieved a bill from UPS (don't remember the amount). I called UPS and they told me it was broker fees. I told them to suck wind, I would not pay it. I did not sign for anything upon delivery, and did not agree to paying any fees. They said they would not deliver to me in the future. Told them "OK", there is Fedex, DhL, Post Office. Got two or three more bills, called them each time and told them where to go. Never paid, still get deliveries (usually about 5-6 PM). |

I try not to use UPS at all anymore. They have a nasty habit of losing stuff and then claiming you signed for it. |

But wait, there's more! My office is a rented apartment. I have two phone lines. One's for talking on, and the other one's used for almost nothing but ringing people in when they buzz up from the building entrance. That second line is what rings whenever a carrier has a package for me. Other than that, it is almost never in use. It goes for hours — whole days — without being used. No traffic on it, and I keep it that way so I won't miss a delivery. What's more, my desk is within easy eyesight of the door, and the door has a loud knocker on it, and I don't listen to music or anything during the day, so if someone happens to get in the entrance (someone else holds the door, for example) without buzzing up, I will hear him or her knock on my door, and I'll be at the door to answer it within seconds. I've had recurring problems with package nondelivery where the UPS driver will see that it's an apartment building, decide nobody's going to be there, and just hit the button or whatever that signifies he made a "delivery attempt". It's been so bad that I've had the package tracking up onscreen and kept hitting "refresh" and watched such a "delivery attempt" appear on the screen while I am sitting there with the phone and door both silent. UPS' answer to this pathetic lazy behaviour is "Well, sir, we do show the driver was there and made a delivery attempt...I'm sorry, but if you want your package you'll need to pick it up at the depot..." and other such lack of responsibility. The depot is an hour's drive away, and I am not interested in doing UPS' job for them. The last time I had to fight traffic all the way to their depot, I raised a stink about it and was eventually allowed to see a manager who told me they know the driver's not doing his job but they can't fire him because of union regulations. And that's on top of bogus "brokerage" charges (which are outrageously higher than postal brokerage charges and magically do not appear if you ship via one of UPS' expensive express service levels). And that's on top of other stupidity and incompetence — I shipped an engineering sample to India on our company UPS account. Filled out the paperwork correctly. Months later, I'm getting harrassed by UPS' collection agency for nonpayment of an invoice. There was never any such an invoice; I shipped the package on our company UPS account, which UPS evidently forgot how to charge. Idiots. Yesterday was the last straw; the collection agency faxed me 24 pages of garbage and left three voicemails demanding payment. I called them back and told them (for the fifth time) that I am an engineer with no means or mechanism for paying them, reminded them they should've charged our UPS account in accord with the shipping paperwork, directed them to our accounts-payable office which is down in the states, and told them the harrassment will stop or I will press charges. The idiot on the other end says "Well, can't you give this invoice to accounts payable, get a cheque, and send it to us?" I told him no, I'm busy enough with my own job and don't want to do theirs, and wouldn't want to do theirs even if they hadn't screwed up, which they did, so if they want their cheque, they'll have to ask the right person for it and stop bothering me. Buncha damn jokers. I understand there is at least one class-action lawsuit against UPS up here for their phony "brokerage charge" profiteering. I hope they get their butts handed to them. |

I have a excellent UPS driver. He does whatever he can to give me a good delivery. Even if no one is home, and it is raining, he will put the package in a dry place. The company, itself, gives me problems. I also have a good FedEx driver. He gave me his cell phone number, so I can get a Sat delivery, if the package is coming "ground", or a Monday delivery, if it is coming "home". Also said if I have something to ship, to do the paperwork "online", then call him, and he will pick it up at my house. I live 25 miles from the Fedex or UPS drop off points. |

The Canadian Govt sued UPS over Brokerage and won. Nothing changed (in spite of UPS claiming the cost of refunding everyone as a business expense) ....no one was refunded. The Govt then switched to Purolater which Canada Post then purchased. ....UPS is suing .......over competition claims. The drivers are always excellent. I will never have a courier account....I pay by credit card each time....saves having extra charges added to the account.....every time I dont ship via truck anywhere in North America....this after 25 years of shipping without difficulty. They break the poles and surcharge EVERY TIME! We deliver now. Cheaper, faster, no damage. Yes I deliver all over North America. |
