Is it worth pulling the gears and drums for use on my 66 (possibly in the future or for a future project). I have to get rid of my "stuff" in my yard and I want to salvage the usable parts for the early A-bodies. I gues the question is, "Do these parts interchange into a narrower rear end"? |

The gears are about the only thing that will swap into a small bolt pattern rear end and personally I wouldn't bother unless I was dirt poor and had to scab a rear end together. |

So there are no 1966 model year parts involved? If both rear ends are 8 1/4s then the brakes and gears will interchange. If one has 2.45 gears then it's differential carrier will be different. It moves the ring gear away from the giant pinion. Swapping used gears is still a crap shoot. I'd probably grab the drums and pitch the rest. |

Is the rear an 8 & 1/4 from an F-body? Where are you located? |

As far as your other parts that you have available for these cars, How bout, could you look up under the trunk floor, gas tank removed, see the upper support "mounts" for the gas tank, I need particularly the driver side Would you have??? I don't need the whole trunk floor. These are directly in line with where the straps go around the bottom of the tank. I may wind up taking off whats left (drilling out the spot welds) and seeing if maybe a local HVAC place with all the sheet metal brakes, shears, etc they have, can make me something close, if I can't find. These should be the same on '78+, 2 dr or 4 dr but I don't think wagon would be. My car's an '80 2 door. Also on your F body rear end if it is an 8-1/4, it might be worth more to sell/trade it off for other parts you need. And to most it would definitely be worth more "whole" than being sold as a pile of remnants. (I don't think the lack of drums would be a deal breaker for most though) If you weren't so far away, I'd seriously consider getting it from you myself, as a spare for my Volare. I have an 8-1/4 here in pieces already, that I need to get put together for that car, now; all new guts except axles; I guess I have to re use those. |

Well, if you were in Texas, I was going to see about buying that rear from you. Thanks anyway, |
