hey everyone, I have a w150 pickup with a rebuild 225. I have installed Clifford hyper pack and I had a Weber 2 barrel on it but it seemed like it wasnt getting enough fuel. So I bought my buddies 600 CFM edelbrock and installed an electric fuel pump. Now it runs even worse. The carb idles great but as soon as I hit the gas is sputters and backfires. I am wondering if 600 cfm is too big? and if so can I use the smaller jets from the 2 barrel Weber? |

Is it a stock rebuild? No performance goodies? If so, then that 600 is much too large. I would think the Weber 2-barrel could be tuned in, but you may have a vaccuum leak somewhere. Time to get out the WD-40 and spray your monting points while at an idle. If the idle speed picks up, you've found your leak. No, the Weber jets won't go into the Holley. Roger |

As far as performance just the extended intake and a full exhaust systen 2 1/2. other than that just stock. Im thinking a 390 holley would work pretty good. |

That could be, but also the carb takes a bit to get any kind of 'signal' from the engine, so in many cases the carb is just not able to be dialed 'rich enough' for this intake, the plenum is huge, and it takes a pretty fair pump shot to keep things 'jake' when going from idle to moving...The 390 holley will work OK, you will want to look over some of my old posts and see how to jet the Holley for that... the 600 would work fine, but I would use a black secondary spring to lock out the secondary plates, but with all big carbs you will have some not so nice mileage... Double check to make sure you have no manifold leaks, and it's sealed against the head.... -D.Idiot Holley 390 pink cam in #1, 52 primary, 54 secondary with metering block, purple spring, use a #28 or #31 shooter.... |

Thanks for all of the advice. I would like to know more about locking out the secondary. Is there a site I could go to that shows me how to do that? |

Yeah... you find a copy of these books at your local bookstore, or at amazon.comSuper Tuning and Modifying Holley Carburators By Dave Emmanuel (this will have all the pics you need to ID what you want to do with your Holley) Holley Carbs,Manifolds, & Fuel Injection by Mike Urich & Bill Fisher is also a good book, although a few of the 'over the counter' items in the book are now obsolete and e-bay fodder... it does cover the Holley 2305 progressive 2 barrel a bit... You will find this as money well spent... I pull my copies out from time to time when looking at an old odd Holley.... -D.Idiot |

WAY to big remember the hyperpak was designed for Nascar type High reving racing to give them an advantage out of the corners in the midrangeOn an unmodified engine it will fall flat on its face - a 500 Eddy or 390 Holley is your ticket - also the Manifold was designed for a 4bbl not a 2bbl - no doubt you will be able to make it work but that was not what it was intended to do. Fuel distribution will go for a loop Just my 2 C |

My manifold is not quite that long but it is made by Clifford. Thinks for all of the reply's, I think I am defiantly going with a smaller carb. |
