Hi guys,

During disassembly for rebuild, I noticed a plate between the water pump unit and the pump blade. The blade has obviously been rubbing on the plate, it's all grooved up like a bad brake rotor!!!

My question is this: is this plate an integral part of the pump that's broken loose, or is it supposed to free-ball under the pump blade?? I'll have pics to post later tonight. Also, if it hasn't broken loose, should there be TWO gaskets, one for block-to-plate, another for plate-to-pump?? Or just goop it??? Thanx all!!

The plate's supposed to be there, freely movable with the pump removed but sandwiched when installed between the two water pump gaskets (one between plate and pump, one between plate and block) but the impeller shouldn't be hitting the plate.

Sounds like the bearing went out and or the shaft slide back to where it hit the plate. If the bearing is good and the shaft has been pressed in correctly there should be enough space, close but not hitting.
