Post subject:  What is the correct Orientation of Rocker Shaft?

Yesterday afternoon I reinstalled the rocker shaft just as it came off of the head after an oil passage way cleaning session with the 12 oil holes facing down. Lets just call this a while we're at it job, as the oil flow was looking a little bit anemic at several of the tappets.

Supper time last night:

Having just had a thought while viewing the food channel waiting for a frozen pizza to become eatable, perhaps I may have installed the rocker shaft upside down, and wrong end to, I than rechecked the FM for the skinny.

The FM points out a flat spot on the end of the shaft that is to face forward, and up. I did not find or feel a flat spot on the rocker shaft during cleaning. So help a virgin shaft installer here, do the oil holes point up, and how can I identify the correct forward end of the shaft without the prescribed flat spot? I now know the larger center retainer is out of position and needs to be moved. Figure 9 illustrating this situation in the FM is not of high enough quality to show this.
