ok i am taking out the steering box in the 64 it's ok and has some play. i have my FFI 20.1 box i am removing from the 73 dart, that i put in around christmas.

my question is how do i remove the wheel on the 64 GT, it looks way different than my old car. and also any tips for doing the box swap would be awesome. thanks! cause this car is way diff than my old one!

The steering boxes are the same (size and mounting). Just remove the pitman arm from the box in the '64, loosen and disconnect the steering shaft from the input of the box and unbolt, remove from car. Disconnect the box in the '73 the same way. swap boxes and reconnect everything. Done deal. I just put a manual steering box from a '63 into my '68. The pitman arms are specific to the year cars so they have to stay where they are.

cool!

cause when i swaped out the sloppy box in my 73 for the FFI Box i had to pull the steering wheel and back out the steering shaft a few inches to remove the stock box. and i so don't wanna do that to the cute little 64.

btw: mike you have the exact same car/dart my grand father had, except his was brown.

You might need to unbolt the whole steering colum to get the room to disconnect, but that should be easier than taking it apart. It is like 6 or 7 bolts, and no little snap rings to fool with.
