Post subject:  Linda's '63 Dart GT
The GT was to be my new race car, but Linda has fallen for the little bugger, so it's now her new car! :D

There will be some adjustments to it's build. I have a 170 project that started out in Josh's stable. It will likely be the new power plant for the Dart. With the 198 Crank, I will use the '74 Transmission, and send the pushbutton control back for modification to operate it.

The car is pretty straight, and suffers from little rust.

So here's the basic starting point.

Linda and THOR had an adventure fetching the car from it's hiding place under a Tree. It found it's way to our side yard for a bit, under our own tree.

I pushed the car around into the driveway to get it cleaned up and start stripping it for body and paint.

Nope. Don't have an early transmission. Two late ones, but one is THOR's old melted one. It doesn't really matter. Both need to be gone through.

Do you think Linda would like a full manual and trans-brake? :twisted:

Yup! Too bad the trip down and back wasn't as nice as the car.... that sucks major on the way back.... bloody F#@$.

I'll be down later today with chris so we can work on it with ya, and do some catching up... and we might be in his new Duster to boot!

I can't believe it is so rust-free... it blew my mind when we tore most of the interior out, only to find minor surface rust, and the trunk was amazing!!! That is one hell of a good base for a project car!

The new headlight rings came via UPS today. It's nice to have beautiful straight ones to put on when it comes back from paint. Thanks Rick!
First it has to get ready for paint though... :roll:

I'd better get on the stick and get the last of the trim and interior out!

It seems I have an early Engine. A '64 225 .030" over.

"The guy I got it from said it was just rebuilt!"

Must have been "one of those jobs." :roll:

The block's water passages are plugged with rust, The freeze plugs were paper-mache, and only one top compression ring was intact. The scuff marks on the pistons are a bit beyond as well.

The timing chain was as loose as I've seen. And I've torn a lot of slants down over the years.

I put the head and crank back on the block to transport it to the machine shop. Keeps everything nice and tidy. Read; "Not broken." :wink: I had an old Felpro from the Hooptie head fiasco to stuff on it.
Time to get it tanked and checked out for an overbore. It looks like theres a lot of cylinder wear. Perhaps Grandma just had it rebuilt in '72, before cousin Fred tried to drive at a hundred from Portland to Eugene or something.

The oil side looked pretty good. Nice and clean, no build up. Probably from all the oil that was leaking out of the poor thing. The Alternator bracket bolt that goes into oil was definitely leaking badly. I burned most of a can of foamy and wiped out a nylon brush getting all the scrunge off the outside of the block. It looked like a ball of greasy dirt when it followed me home. The layer of carbon in the combustion chambers was impressive though.

So, progress made. I'll start going through the early transmission MiDi dropped off this winter.

A nice evening of playing with an old slant anyway! :D
