I just recently picked up a 75' dart swinger with a 225 slant six(I've been wanting one forever), I like to have my car as simple as possible and take off all the unecessary stuff(egr crap, catalytic converter, etc.) This car came with A/C but I live in FL, and if it's hot I roll down the window, and if it's cold I wear a sweater. If I remove the a/c unit and all it's components, is there anything I need to look out for? What I'm trying to say is if I remove it all will it affect anything else or is there anything I need to get before I do this? Thanks.

i believe the bolts holding the mounting bracket, are also holding in the water pump. i did the same thing on my 73 a few weeks back. so be sure to put something down underneath the car. And have plenty of antifreeze for afterwards.

do you need shorter bolts or anything since its on the water pump as well? What about the a/c hoses, anything they connect too?

You really should take it to an approved a/c shop and have the system evac,d.If there's any refrig left in there it's not to good for you and the enviroment to let it just escape.You might consider capping and bagging all the pieces as someone might like to put a/c on their rig and buy your stuff. Shorter bolts or a couple washers on your old bolts should work.

Adding AC to a 83 D-150 is part of my plan. I am interested in the compressor bracket, and any mounting bolts.

When I did this on my Volare, I just had an unused bracket sticking up where the AC comp was. Later on, I cut out a thick piece of sheetmetal, drilled holes in it, and used some thick washers. I eventually sold the original bracket to somebody.
I agree with having a shop evac your system for you.

To answer your basic question... no, nothing about the A/C system missing or disconnected will affect anything else. If you remove everything forward from the firewall, all you will need to do is plug bolt holes in the block, and make sure you cap the inlet and outlet evaporator tubes poking through the firewall. The best part of this whole process is that you just lightened your car by several pounds.

What does evac-ing a system entail? And if I just took the parts of myself what's so dangerous in there? I'm on a tight budget and need to get the car from orlando to Ft. Lauderdale soon.I just dont want to disconnect something and go blind or get a chemical burn.

go ahead and let the brackets go to randydupree / gainsville, what you have is a closer match to his vehicle.

evacuating the system means that a device that creates suction is attached to the AC system, so in a controled manner the R-12 is removed and contained.

call a few AC shops, it won't cost much, recycle / sell the components you remove and you will more than pay for the freon containment
