| Post subject: | Super-six intake manifold with standard exhaust manifold |
I have a 1973 D100 225ci pickup my grandpa purchased brand-new, now he passed it on to me. I've restored the body, but now I'm focusing on engine modifications. It currently has the standard 1bbl holley and factory intake/exhaust manifold. I purchased a super-six intake/exhaust manifold and purchased a rebuilt Carter 2bbl for my project. I've been drooling over the Dutra duals but unfortunately I can't afford it. I was thinking of installing the super-six intake and carb while leaving the factory exhaust manifold. Will I still see a significant performance increase without adding Dutra duals or headers? Or is it not worth my time adding the super-six intake and carb without an upgraded exhaust solution? Thanks! |

Welcome to the board! You can experience a significant gain with the super six by going to a single 2.25" exhaust system and free flowing muffler. In fact many trucks had 2.25" exhaust. Check yours and let us know what the inside diameter is of the head pipe and tail pipe. You can always add the Dutra's later. |

From my experience, you will still have a significant performance increase be just putting the supersix on and not changing your exhaust. I still have the stock exhaust on my car and I noticed a great performance increase just be adding the intake/carb. Of course you can just put a 2.25" exhaust pipes on it with the stock exhaust manifold and get even more hp out of it, and get the dutras/headers when you want. But if you want to do it cheap, leave the stock exhaust alone and enjoy. |
