What have I forgotten?? When I pulled this 3 speed I couldn't get it out without taking the clutch loose too. The back of the engine catches on the steering link and the trans won't clear the firewall.

I don't remember having this problem before, but...

Now I'm putting an even bigger trans back in. Do you guys unbolt the link to let the engine down? Undo the engine mounts? Or what?

Thanks

What car of car are you dealing with?

I usually allow the engine to tilt back until I have sufficient clearance to remove the trans and later the bellhousing. If there's a drag link in the way, definitely remove it or loosen it at one end so the engine can tilt back.

1965 Valiant.

I don't get it. I've replaced the clutch a few times without separating the trans and the bell and I simply don't remember ever having a problem before.

Well, I guess I'm busting out my link wrenches - and my knuckles.

Thanks
