Is there a way to go from a v-belt to serpentine belt on a slant? If so, is there any performance advantages? I was thinking about doing this so I can put a easier to find/cheeper serpentine drive clutch fan and A/C compresser on. |

This has been done, by one of our former members who, sadly, passed away. Search the board for the word "serpentine" by the author "super6" (leave off the quote marks). This is a _very_ large project involving a great deal of custom engineering and fabrication. It's definitely not a simple swap. The reduction in parasitic power loss is real but very small — it would take many, many miles of driving to make back the expense in reduced fuel consumption. There's no real trouble finding V-belt-driven fans or compressors; what difficulty are you running into? |

I am having trouble finding good v-belt A/C compressors around here, especially mopar ones. Same with clutch fans. All the bone yards around here don't have anything older than about 1990. When I do find somthing I need it ends up being far away and very expensive to ship. I can pick up a good serpentine drive compressor here for about $10 thats compact enough to fit. So, I was thinking about a serpentine system. Is there a way to turn a serpentine drive compressor into a v-belt drive? |

I am in kalamazoo michigan right now and I visited a local u pick it yard and they have an 85 or 86 grand fury with a slant! I am going to pull the clutch fan and A/C compressor along with the brackets. Is there anything else I should pull off of it? Or anything anyone might want me to pull? |

Check the brake rotor diameter. If the rotors are 11.75" and the car has sliding calipers (no pins) the caliper to spindle adapters are useful for those upgrading from the 10.87" rotors. The spindles and calipers can be used for a disc brake swap as well. |

Yes, you can use the spindles and calipers, but not the master cylinder or booster. |

The last year for Slant-6s in M-bodies such as that car was 1983. Don't pay too much for that compressor if you can avoid it — it's the Nippondenso C171, which is not an especially good or durable compressor design. What was wrong with the compressor already on your car? |

I just assumed the year because the engine is black. My bad Quote: Don't pay too much for that compressor if you can avoid it — it's the Nippondenso C171, which is not an especially good or durable compressor design.
Any other compressors I could use and what vehicles have them? Ford, GM, or Chrysler I don't care, as long as its v-belt drive.Quote: What was wrong with the compressor already on your car?
Should I start another thread about this? Its gotton quite off topic! |

Using a compressor off a Ford, GM, or most anything else other than a Chrysler product would be very difficult. There's a lot of stuff that has to line up...the bracket/mounting ears, the clutch pulley belt groove, the electrical and hosepipe connections. The C171 compressor was first used in '78 or so, and Chrysler used it for a long time (well into the '90s) on lots of different makes and models. The C171 in my '92 LeBaron (and almost every other 2.2/2.5-litre K-derivative car and minivan) was V-belt driven. First year for black engines rather than blue: '83. |

So, should I take the brackets and find the same compressor out of another car? Or go with this one and see what happens? I was thinking about taking the rest of the A/C stuff (drier, hoses, etc.) also, along with the radiator. Can I do this, or should I buy all new stuff? Will the radiator fit in my Duster? This is what I am going to put in, scince an origional 73+ one is hard tofind and expensive. |
