I used Gorilla Glue on mine. They are on there good, and its safe to say, they arn't comin off for a while!
Note: use very little glue! (if you have ever used that stuff, you know what im talkin about!)

My 74 Dart Sport sat for fifteen years and the right front fender was very rusted, so I bought a new fender from an Arizona 73 Dart Swinger. During the body/paint work, the "Swinger Emblem" holes were filled in, so now I have a new paint job with no holes to mount my "DART" and "Sport" emblems. What size drill bit do I use to drill the holes for the new emblems? Do I drill from the outside (paint side) or from the inside. Somebody told me to place a small block of wood on the metal and get a good start in the wood and keep going until you punch through the metal. All help is appreciated. I do not want to scratch the paint. |

I would put masking tape over the paint, lay out the pattern and center punch it through the tape. A good, sharp bit should go right through a fender with no trouble. Bit size will depend on the size of the stubs on the emblem plus the speed nuts that go in the hole to hold the emblem. |

when drilling steel it is like hard wood drill a smaller hole for a punch whole. and then ur large sized bit that you need im sure there pretty small holes though |

Both emblems are new (NOS) and don't have speed nuts. They are hollow cylindrical plastic pieces over each stub on the inside part of the fender. It seems to me the plastic "retainers" need glue to keep from vibrating off the stubs when the car is in motion. How did Chrysler install these to not fall off?

i stuck jb weld on the studs comming thru the fender to hold my dart logos on my '73. today i removed them and they came off pretty easy and in one pice. prolly not the best idea but they held for a year thru car washes and me banging into them while working on the car. just say'n neil parker - aka MiDi |

follow this advice here, and do not use the block of wood idea your friend told you. use a punch and a sharp bit and I doubt your bit will drift. If you can access the other side take a really large drill bit or counter sink, by hand and spin it on the hole to cut off the flash created by the drilling, so your speed nuts fit flush.

Measure out where the holes are supposed to go. Use a grease pincel or a "Vis a Vis" pen and mark on the fender with a + symble. Use a small drill bit, like a 40 (3/32) bit in the center of the +. Feather the drill motor so the bit does not walk on you. Then step up the hole to where you need it...even if it means using 2 or 3 drill sizes. The pen I mentioned is used for overhead projecters and is removed buy water. I think if you do it like this, you should get some nice round, tight holes and minimize any damage to the paint. Don't use a punch! If you feel you must, use a block of wood to back the fender so you don't leave small dents. Trust me, I work on aircraft structure that is alot softer than steel. |
