Post subject:  Dist. Gear Query?

Hello Folks, I know The dist Gear Options have been Discussed here alot and there Seems to Be No availability of the DG-404 or equivilatent from Borg warrner or Standard. So I thought I would throw this out to see if anyone has ever heard of this before??

I had seen a whaile back that Clifford had a bronze gear and I dont even want to go there to deal with them, But someone told me that this gear would work too? It's listed for a SB ford;

Will this work or is it just a big pile of crap.

I am honestly just tired of shredding Nylon gears when I pull the Dist. out, that's all ( you know, They Get weak and brittle, etc.

I have never had a nylon gear fail on me. I got a distributor about a year ago that had an aftermarket nylon gear that allowed a lot of end play in the distributor. I broke that gear taking it off so I bought a new gear, drilled a new hole to eliminate the end play and put it on the distributor. I don't think replacing a gear every 30 years is a reason to condemn them as junk.

I didn't really say they were junk - -I just want to know if the part in the link that I posted will work.

I would tend to doubt it Greg, I think the Ford gear is quite different than ours. :(

THIS will work.
and --- while the Oz dollar is only running at 65 cents or so against the US dollar,it is cheap.
phone or email PP&R and ask their tech people if you are still concerned about it.

The Ford pinion looks to have a different tooth count than the Australian pinion. But if you are shredding nylon pinions, there's probably something the matter with the drive worm on your camshaft. I'd worry about the oil pump drive and find/fix the problem before worrying about the distributor pinion.

Thanks Rod, I tried looking around there yesterday But couldn't find It.

But as I look at this page it says it's for the HEMI six which is not the same engine as the Slant -- Do they Share the same dist. Gear?

Hmm... If they Do I'll Get a few.

Can anyone shed some light here??

Thanks,

Greg

well, hemi 6 distributors will fit slants. not a good fit size wise, but fit however.
if you are worried about it,a quick emailto ray at PP&R will sort it out real quick.
I have searched all the old dizzy posts on Mopar Market, but ca'nt find exactly that answer. I remember reading it somewhere that the drive gears are compatible.

FWIW, the Australian R-VG factory parts catalogue shows different P/Ns for the drive gear for the same-year slant-6 and hemi-6 distributors, both made by Bosch.

Post subject:  Distributor Gear?

I thought NAPA sold an iron gear replacement for Slant Six distributors.
