| Post subject: | Mopar performance 6-1 Headers in an Fbody Volare |
I picked up a set of NOS NMOPAR Performance Headers and it looks like they will fit the my slant six Volare just fine. Now I have another concern. The stock sl6 exhaust exits the manifold in the center of the car crosses under the bell housing and runs down the right side. There is a deep indent in the crossmember and floor on the pass side to make clearance for the catalytic converter, heat shielding for the cat and then space for the muffler. In the drivers side the indent in the crossmember not as deep there no indent for the cat and no heat shielding for the cat. There is plenty of room for the muffler. The header collector is on the drivers side under the steering column. I can run from the header to a cat then to a muffler but will still have to move the fuel tank over to make clearance for the tailpipe on the left. I would prefer to go down the right side but this will require me to cross under the trans leaving me with two 90 degree bends. Has anyone added a 6 into 1 header on a slant six F body? What did you do? Thanks, Scott |

I know the header will fit an F-body, buddy of mine used to have a Volare with one installed. I don't think he had a converter on his though. |

Scott, The 90* Bends is the solution.. ![]() ![]() http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm291/hyperpack/ This is done on a 79 Volare Slant with those headers. 3" all the way back (maybe a bit on the Big side) But I will have to put some pics up of the 90* bends.. I made my exhaust up from scratch using a bunch of 45's 90's and 180's from summit along with 3" straight tube and a 3" cat and 3" Flowmaster. I would much rather try this than to relocate the fuel tank Greg |

If a picture is worth a 1000 words, then this is worth 10,000 - Phew glad I dont have to type all that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwb1UyuKISI Greg |

THANKS GREG! I am at work and cant open the youtube video but I will check it out as soon as I get home. Id love to see your car and hear how it sounds but it looks like you are a bit over 4 hours from me. I will just have to rely on the pics. My plan for now is to I will install the header and using PVC pipe mock up the exhaust to cross over to the pass side and then have a pipe bent from the pvc template. I can use the existing tailpipe as a template for the muffler back. The consensus seems to be that 2.25 pipe is the optimum size for an otherwise stock SL6. No real performance gain larger than that. I am wondering if I should use 2.5 though? Even if I end up with 90 degree bends (and I think I can do it with 2 45's) it won't really have a net effect with this engine. I will also use a single 30 dollar Dynomax welded muffler from Summit (this seems to be a copy of a flowmaster 40.) Scott |

No problem scott, Check out the 2 other vids on my channel of the car - They were all shot using that exhaust system - The Older vid Had a manifold leading to the 3" exhaust then I added the 6into1 Header with the EFI this summer. Greg |
