I was wondering if anyone knows what a stock cast crank /6 will take for boost and what breaks, pistons, rods, crank? I want to get as close as possible without breaking till i have the cash to build a bullet proof engine [it's not a daily driver] I'm currently running 17psi on E85 with megasquirt and distributorless ignition, the turbo is a factory cummins 98.5 and newer and the intercooler is huge [at full boost iat stays within 10deg of air temp]. all this in a 3700# d150. can u say brick . last time at the track it was at 8psi on a rough tune it did 14.9 @ 95mph not great but better than most trucks. I'll let you know how it does this weekend

Welcome to the board. :D

The cast crank gets a bum rap. Very seldom will you ever see one break The rods are reasonably tough too.

Mike Jeffrey ran well into the 10's with his nitrous Valiant with a cast crank motor, stock crank and rods. The car ran 12.0's on motor only and the motor lasted over 500 passes.

Welcome to the website!

400 HP is probably a reasonable guess, but N2O and RPMs can be harder on parts, so if you keep RPMs low (easy for turbo motor), then you'll probably be OK higher?

We'd love to get you to a Slant Six drag race sometime. The season just ended out East with the Clay City, KY race (Mopar Muscle Southern Classic). Lots of fast Slant cars there, and everyone completely different.

We should have at least one race in the OH/KY area next year.

Good to have you aboard,

Lou

What is low rpms? I rev it to 5grand. it makes good power past that but worrys me with a stock 150k engine that had oil pump problems. I should note it has a custom grind and has heavy springs

5 grand is about right for a stock 150k motor. I would go 5500 or so on a stock rebuilt motor, and 6000 for a balanced nicely built (mostly blueprinted) rebuild. Forged pistons can get you a little more.

Mr. Demon,

The races we do are mostly driven by locals who can "host" a race and gather some attendees and hopefully some sponsorship. I agree that the SW should have a good number of cars to attend a race, if the right person   (nudge, nudge) can find a suitable event or track and a date.

Wayne Erickson is probably the best person to talk with about coordinating with other West Side events.

There has been a race at the MATS event in Vegas in March the last 3 yrs or so.

Oregon Cam Grinding can do pretty much anything you want for $75 exchange.

See this thread: http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... m+grinding

Yah I have a local shop that can regrind for resionable but comps are new blanks and I have had too many problems with stock cam oil pump drive gears chiping or wearing teeth. I've went through 2 stock cams and 4 oil pumps till my comp cam and havent had a problem since. by the way also a testament to the /6 reliability, Its been without oil 4 times and drove it home and its still running
