Post subject:  Exhaust manifold bolt instead of stud - is this correct?

Hi all,

My slant (1967 Barracuda, 225 cu. in.) is currently out for a re-build. When I removed the manifolds, I found that the forward-most stud wasn't a stud at all, but a bolt (shown on far left in pic below):

Is this correct, or has someone changed this? When I removed it, there was water behind it. Does this mean the water jacket in the cylinder head has been pierced/punctured, or is there supposed to be water coming out of this hole? If not, any ideas on what to do or how to fix? I don't believe it was leaking, so perhaps I should just re-assemble it like this? Thanks for any advice.

Roger

It's supposed to be a stud and they normally do enter the water jacket so I use blue Locktite on studs I replace.

It's definitely meant to be a stud. Put it together correctly; see here for specifics.
